Cask Details
A pretty standard Japanese whisky but this whisky has won awards all over the world and after having a few drams it is easy to see why. Bottled at 51.4% ABV this Blended whisky is very well balanced. Calling Nikka a Japanese whisky is slightly pushing it as most of the Whisky comes from Ben Nevis Distillery which is owned by the same group. It is blended with other whiskies and these are matured further in casks to help the flavours combine and for me it works - almost too well!
Nose
Lots of Caramel and Vanilla on the nose and taking the nose away get some demerara sugar and pear drops, a great smelling whisky and could nose it for a while.
Taste
Almost like sticky toffee pudding, lots of really caramel and toffee sauce notes with a hint of vanilla, I wouldn't say there is much spiciness to it maybe a little smokiness which just adds to the flavour.
Finish
Nice and sweet to finish with, any smokiness that was there is gone and just a delectable caramel finish with a hint of sweetened cherries.
