Cask Details

Having been on the lookout for a Bunna 12 year old, I came across this recently released bottle and thought why not, there weren't many reviews at the time so went in blind.

Bunnahabhain has a great reputation for good whisky and their 12 year old is well known as a great value dram.
The main question about the Stiuireadair is where it sits in with other bottles and although not confirmed it is widely believed that due to the 12 year olds popularity stocks were running low and to spead distribution the Stiuireadair was born.

Value for money is really where the Stiuireadair sits, if you enjoy the 12 year old the Stiuireadair is very different and definitely not a replacement.

Nose

Arran_18YO-17JUL19_800x (1)_edited.jpg

Sweet, with some richness on the nose. Nuts, Butter, Cinnamon, Shortbread and Cider Vinegar. The fruit lies low here but definitely small whiff of them. some very subtle sherry notes taking some time to come to the nose. This points that although aged in Sherry casks it is fairly young and hasn't found that full Sherry cask flavour.

Taste

Soft and light texture with a bit of heat. Pear, lychee, and honey up front, developing into green grapes and mild tropical fruit. A good amount of black pepper in the middle, as well as fresh-cut lumber and vanilla. A bit of seaweed, then, finally, raisins.

Finish

Light. Melon, nuts, vanilla, honey, and seaweed.
